There are multiple vein treatment options available for varicose veins including thermal/non-thermal ablation, microphlebectomy, and ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy. During your consultation, Dr. Stein will assess your veins and discuss treatment options. Varicose veins may require further diagnostic workup, usually with ultrasound which Dr. Stein can discuss during your visit.
Sclerotherapy is one of the most common, safest and most effective methods for treating spider veins.
Sclerotherapy involves injecting a small amount of a liquid (sclerosant) into the leg veins. Once injected, this sclerosant will irritate the inside of the vein. This causes the small veins to collapse, shrivel and disappear. It may take several weeks to see results.
You may feel mild discomfort during the procedure. However, most do not need pain medicine to prepare them for this.
Post Sclerotherapy Procedure
After the injections, compression stockings are applied and worn consistently for 1 week. Bruising is common after the injections, and legs will often look worse before they look better.
First, a consultation is scheduled. This can be in person at RMA or via Telemedicine.
